12 Months of Simple Living

Intro

As the horizon of 2017 loomed, I realised that 2016 had been a bit of a dramatic one for me to say the least and as is tradition, I was looking to make a positive change for this new year’s resolution.
As I pondered my options for my new year’s resolution I realised that, 1. There were too many things I wanted to change, and all were equally needed, and 2. The idea of committing to one of those resolutions for an entire year seemed not only daunting, but very improbable.

There is a great saying “A journey of a thousand miles begins with just a single step.

We all have that friend who is an “All or Nothing” personality but personally, for me, that approach has never worked. My experience of this often ends up in a wasted gym membership and it seems at times, even more tubs of Ben and Jerry’s. Instead of setting myself an unachievable goal, I decided to make small changes a month at a time and hope that, by the end of this year, I can look back and see how far I have come.

I know I’m not perfect and I am going to fail. But most successful people embrace failure and so will I. For me this journey is very much a holistic one, as with each challenge I nurture and develop my mind, body and spirit.

Winston Churchill said “Success is stumbling from failure to failure with no loss of enthusiasm.”

So, to motivate me to achieve my goals and encourage me when I inevitably fail, I am going to turn my failures into other people’s success. I will be picking a charity each month (hopefully one that correlates to my month of change) to donate money or time to should I fail at that month’s task. That way it’s a win-win all round!
